About the taluka
Purandar taluka lies south-east of Pune, across the Dive Ghat. Its headquarters, Saswad, is an old town on the Karha river, with the samadhi of Sant Sopandev, the brother of Sant Dnyaneshwar.
Known for
- Jejuri, the hill temple of Khandoba, famous for the yellow bhandara (turmeric) thrown by devotees.
- Purandar fort, where Sambhaji Maharaj was born.
- Purandar figs (anjeer), which have a GI tag.
- The Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhi passes through Saswad and Jejuri.
