About the airport

Pune International Airport (code PNQ) is at Lohegaon, next to Viman Nagar, about 10 km from Pune Station. It is run by the Airports Authority of India but shares its runway with the Indian Air Force station at Lohegaon, so flight times can be limited. According to AAI it handled about 1.1 crore passengers in 2025-26. A large new terminal building has been added next to the old one.

Flights connect Pune with all major Indian cities and a few international destinations.

Getting to the airport

  • App cabs and prepaid taxis are the easiest way. Allow extra time at rush hour on Nagar Road and Airport Road.
  • PMPML runs buses to the airport from different parts of the city.
  • The nearest metro stations are on the Aqua Line in Yerawada and Ramwadi, a short cab ride away.

The new Purandar airport

A new, larger airport is planned at Purandar, south-east of Pune, to be named Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje International Airport. In 2026 the project was at the land acquisition stage, with opening expected around 2029.
