History

Korigad watched over the trade routes between the Konkan and the Deccan. It was taken into the Maratha kingdom by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and was among the forts surrendered to the British in 1818.

What you can see today

  • Fort walls that go nearly all the way around the top. You can walk along them.
  • The Koraidevi temple, two lakes and a few old cannons.
  • Views of the Sahyadri and Aamby Valley.

How to reach

From Lonavala, take the road towards Aamby Valley to Peth Shahapur village. Steps lead up to the fort in about an hour.

Tips for visitors

  • A good first trek for children.
  • Fog is thick in the monsoon. Stay on the path and away from the edges.
