About
Khandoba, also called Malhari Martand, is a form of Shiva and the kuldaivat, the family deity, of a very large number of families in Maharashtra. His most important temple is at Jejuri, on a hill above the town.
What to see
- The climb of more than two hundred steps, with stone arches and deepmalas (lamp towers).
- Devotees throwing bhandara, yellow turmeric powder, which turns the whole hill gold. That is why Jejuri is called Sonyachi Jejuri, golden Jejuri.
- The large festivals on Somvati Amavasya and in the month of Margashirsha.
How to reach
Jejuri is on the road from Pune to Saswad and Baramati. ST buses run often from Swargate. Jejuri also has a railway station.
