About
Dehu is the village of Sant Tukaram, the seventeenth century saint poet whose abhangas are sung all over Maharashtra. The temple here stands near the place where he lived.
What to see
- The main temple of Sant Tukaram and the Vitthal Rukmini temple.
- The ghat on the Indrayani, where, in the well-known story, his writings floated back up from the water.
- Bhandara hill nearby, where Tukaram used to meditate.
The palkhi
Each year the palkhi of Sant Tukaram leaves Dehu for Pandharpur, a day before the palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar leaves Alandi. The two palkhis stay in Pune together for two nights.
How to reach
Dehu is near Dehu Road on the Pune Mumbai highway. Local trains stop at Dehu Road station.
