Life and work
Shantanurao Laxmanrao Kirloskar was the son of Laxmanrao Kirloskar, who founded the Kirloskar business at Kirloskarwadi. After studying engineering in the United States, Shantanurao led the group for many decades and expanded it into engines, pumps, machine tools and electrical equipment.
Pune link
He set up Kirloskar Oil Engines at Khadki in Pune in the 1940s, one of the early large factories of the city. The Kirloskar companies still have a big presence in Pune today.
