The story
The Chitale family ran a dairy business in Sangli district before Raghunathrao Chitale opened Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale in Pune in 1950. The shop became famous for its bakarwadi, milk sweets and shrikhand, and for its very Puneri ways, such as closing for an afternoon break.
Today
Chitale Bandhu is still run by the family. Its shop near Deccan Gymkhana is a Pune landmark, and its packed bakarwadi travels with Punekars all over the world.
