With dengue cases rising in Pune, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram held a meeting with representatives of private hospitals in the city on Monday, 26 October 2026, in the Commissioner's hall at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The Additional Municipal Commissioner (General), the Health Officer, assistant health officers, and zonal and ward medical officers also attended.

What private hospitals have been asked to do

  • Admit and treat quickly: dengue patients who need hospital care should be admitted on time and treatment should start without delay.
  • Report on the IHIP portal: details of dengue patients, and of patients with other notifiable illnesses, should be entered on the government's Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) soon after diagnosis. This helps PMC see where cases are rising and send teams there.
  • Guide patients and families: information on dengue should be given in both the outpatient and inpatient departments, and to relatives as well.
  • Watch after going home: in some dengue patients the platelet count can fall in the later stage of the illness, so patients sent home after fever treatment should be told to keep watch on their health and see a doctor on time.
  • Explain prevention: patients should be told to use mosquito nets, keep water from collecting in and around the house, clean water containers regularly and remove places where mosquitoes can breed.
  • Tell patients about PMC's Shahari Garib Yojana: hospitals should give full details of the PMC's medical assistance scheme for the urban poor to patients coming for treatment of dengue or other illnesses, so that more eligible families can benefit.

Hospital representatives shared the difficulties they face, and the Commissioner assured them that the departments concerned would be given directions and the issues would be addressed as soon as possible.

What PMC is doing

PMC is carrying out fogging and spraying across the city and running awareness campaigns through different media to control the spread of dengue. It has also appointed 17 officers to handle mosquito breeding complaints through the ward offices.

What citizens should do

  • Do not panic, but keep your home and surroundings clean.
  • Do not let water collect in or around the house. Cover and clean water tanks and stored water.
  • If you have fever or other dengue symptoms, see a doctor on time and follow the doctor's advice.
  • Help PMC teams and take part in cleanliness and awareness drives for a dengue-free Pune.
