The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appointed 17 officers to strengthen mosquito control across the city, as cases of dengue, chikungunya and malaria rise after the monsoon. The step was announced by the PMC's Health and Vector-Borne Disease Control Department on 25 October 2026.

What the officers will do

  • Work with the ward offices on complaints about mosquito breeding.

  • Arrange insecticide spraying and fogging wherever it is needed.

How to report a breeding spot

If you see mosquito larvae or stagnant water in your area, such as at a construction site, an open plot or a garbage spot, report it to your local PMC ward office. The complaint will be passed to the officer in charge.

What you can do at home

  • Cover water tanks, drums and barrels, and clean them regularly.

  • Do not let water collect in old tyres, plastic containers, flower pot trays and other junk.

  • Empty the water trays of fridges, air coolers and flower vases every week.

  • Check your home and terrace often, and wear full-sleeved clothes, especially in the morning and evening.

  • If you have fever, body ache or headache, get checked at a municipal hospital or dispensary without delay.

Free rapid dengue tests are available at all PMC dispensaries. Read more: Dengue in Pune: free tests at PMC dispensaries and enough hospital beds.
