Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram visited the newly built Dr. Naidu Hospital for infectious diseases in Baner on Saturday, 24 October 2026, and reviewed the city's preparations as dengue cases rise. He said PMC hospitals have enough beds and medicines, and asked citizens not to panic but to see a doctor as soon as they notice any symptoms.

Free tests and free treatment

  • Free rapid dengue tests are available at all PMC dispensaries.
  • Free confirmation tests are done at Dr. Naidu Hospital, Dr. Kotnis Hospital and Kamala Nehru Hospital.
  • Dr. Naidu Hospital has 50 beds set aside for dengue, of which about 35 are free at present. Treatment there is completely free.

Beds across the city

About half of Pune's dengue beds are free. Private hospitals have 4,409 beds for dengue patients, including 670 ICU beds, and PMC hospitals have 333 beds, including 6 ICU beds. The Commissioner asked people not to insist on only a few big hospitals.

Numbers so far

Pune recorded about 4,908 dengue cases in 2024 and 2,391 in 2025. From January to 20 October 2026, 2,291 cases have been recorded. PMC teams have visited about 14 lakh homes and checked over 28 lakh water containers. Dengue mosquito larvae were found in 18,885 containers in about 13,000 homes, and 2,664 property owners were served notices, with fines of ₹6.3 lakh collected.

What PMC is doing

  • The health, building, encroachment and solid waste departments will work together to stop water collecting at construction sites, garbage depots and encroachments.
  • Spraying is focused on areas with more cases, with indoor fogging in and around patients' homes.
  • Biological larvicide is being used in stored water during the water cut period.
  • Awareness messages play on garbage collection vans, on radio and on digital boards at railway stations, and schools and housing societies are being involved.

What you can do

  • Do not let water collect around your home. Cover water tanks and drums.
  • Empty and dry flower pot plates, terrace garden trays and coolers once a week. Keep one "dry day" every week.
  • Since many homes store water because of the water cut, cover stored water tightly.
  • If you have fever or other symptoms, see a doctor early. Rest, eat fresh food and drink plenty of fluids.
  • Help the PMC inspection teams when they visit.
