About the garden
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje Garden, often still called Sambhaji Park, is one of the busiest gardens in the heart of Pune. It sits on Jangli Maharaj Road, right next to Balgandharva Rangmandir, and is a favourite for morning walks, children's evenings and weekend outings.
Its freshwater aquarium of ornamental fish was opened on 1 August 1952 and is still a big draw for children. A sprinkler system keeps the lawns green all year.
At Diwali the Pune Municipal Corporation holds a flower show and a fort exhibition here. Groups build small models of Maharashtra's forts using traditional methods, and the best fort wins a prize. PMC says the event draws around two lakh visitors from across the state.
