About the club
The Poona Club on Bund Garden Road is more than a century old and is counted among the most famous clubs in the country. It was registered as a company on 31 August 1931. Its founder patrons were some of the best-known names of that time, among them the Aga Khan, Sir Dorab Tata, Sir Cusrow Wadia, Sir Victor Sassoon, the Maharajas of Jodhpur and Rajpipla, the Gaikwad of Baroda and the Nawab of Junagadh.
Today it has more than 6,000 members and links with about 90 clubs in India and 15 abroad, whose members can use the club when they visit Pune.
Three campuses
- Main club, about 13.5 acres on Bund Garden Road, with the clubhouse, restaurants, a library in one of its old buildings, a cinema hall, a children's park and a jogging track.
- Swimming pool and squash complex, about 2.5 acres on Richardson Road (Ashoka Marg).
- Golf course, an 18-hole course of nearly 96 acres on Airport Road, Yerwada.
Sports and facilities
- Golf, cricket, tennis, squash, swimming, badminton, basketball, pickleball and 5-a-side football.
- Table tennis, billiards, bridge, cards and mah-jong.
- Yoga, karate, taekwondo and a health club.
- Several restaurants and bars, a bakery and café, a spa and salon, rooms for members' guests and about a dozen halls for events.
The club hosts leagues and tournaments through the year, such as its golf league.
