History
Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule lived in this house in Ganj Peth. Together they started schools for girls in Pune in the middle of the nineteenth century, at a time when girls were rarely sent to school. Savitribai is remembered as one of India's first women teachers.
Jyotirao Phule founded the Satyashodhak Samaj in 1873 to work for equal rights and against the caste system. The house is now kept as a national memorial.

How to reach
Phule Wada is in Ganj Peth, south of the old city centre. Autos and city buses come close by.
Tips for visitors
- Plan for about half an hour.
- 11 April (Jyotirao Phule's birth anniversary) and 3 January (Savitribai Phule's) bring many visitors.
