Indian billiards great Geet Sethi is set to return to international competition at the 2026 English Open and World Billiards Championship in England.

The events will be held at Landywood Snooker Club in Great Wyrley, near Walsall. The English Open will be played on 17 and 18 October 2026, followed by the World Billiards Championship from 19 to 22 October. A Women's World Championship will be held on 21 October. Both main events use the timed format. England's David Causier is the defending champion in both, after beating India's Dhruv Sitwala in last year's world final.

A legend of the green baize

Born in Delhi in 1961 and raised in Ahmedabad, Geet Sethi ruled world billiards through the 1990s. He won the World Professional Billiards Championship five times (1992, 1993, 1995, 1998 and 2006) and the world amateur title three times (1985, 1987 and 2001). In 1992 he made a world-record billiards break of 1,276. He is the only player to have made both a 147 maximum break in competitive snooker and a 1,000-plus break in competitive billiards.

He was among the first winners of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, now the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, in 1992-93, and received the Padma Shri and the Arjuna Award in 1986. Away from the table, he co-founded Olympic Gold Quest with Prakash Padukone to support Indian athletes with Olympic medal hopes, and wrote the book Success vs Joy.

Fans in India can follow the matches online, as the main table will be streamed live.

Welcome back, Maestro!
