INDIA, October 26, 2021 — FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, today revealed the findings of its ‘Future is Now’ study* that offers insights into India’s readiness to embrace the future.

India is at the cusp of change, with the pandemic accelerating the country’s digital transformation. From healthcare to education, banking to manufacturing, technology is transforming every sector, giving rise to a future full of possibilities. According to the study, which surveyed more than 4,000 respondents in 18 cities, 79% stated that India was prioritizing technology like Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and Blockchain to deliver a future-ready world. Approximately 83% believed the technology they’d seen in science fiction movies is either already a part of their daily lives, or likely to be in the next few years.

With the trend of technology-led change likely to continue, specific industries were identified as major drivers in shaping the cities of the future, with healthcare (35%), infrastructure and logistics (21%), and banking and finance (18%) believed to be leading the change.

Mohamad Sayegh, Vice President, India Operations for FedEx Express, said, “At FedEx, we have a legacy of innovation spanning several decades, and we constantly innovate to create solutions for the world in responsible and resourceful ways.

With the shift towards digital transformation accelerating, innovations and cutting-edge technologies with a focus on sustainability are poised to drive the future of business. Further progress in Blockchain, IoT, Automation, and Robotics is not only going to lead the way for the logistics industry but all industries in the future.”

The ‘Future is Now’ study focused on three main views: being dynamic, how India is open to experimentation and innovation, and to what degree the country is sustainability conscious. The findings indicated that future success will likely rely on businesses structuring their approach around these three outlooks.

The future is dynamic

Regardless of industry, companies must monitor the pulse of their consumers, anticipate their needs, and stay one step ahead of their rapidly evolving expectations. The pandemic accelerated change in almost every aspect of life, from how we live and work, to how businesses interact with their customers, and how customers purchase products and services.

The FedEx study shows that businesses are already working to keep pace with this change, with about 87% of respondents stating that over the past year, companies demonstrated their ability to understand ‘What’s next?’ and present possible solutions.

Openness to experimentation is indispensable to a future-ready mindset

India has jumped ranks in the Global Innovation Index and is home to a thriving start-up ecosystem that propels transformation with new ideas and solutions.

In an increasingly dynamic environment, success for businesses hinges upon pushing the envelope and fostering a culture of experiment-led innovation. A majority of 91% of those polled in the FedEx survey, believe that organizations, communities, or even individuals who experiment and adopt change are better equipped to navigate through future challenges.

A sustainable mindset isn’t a choice, but rather, a business imperative for success

Consumers today are growing more conscious of the impact their choices have on the world around them – whether it pertains to the environment or their communities. Even their purchasing decisions are increasingly influenced by their perception of an organization being sustainable and responsible. According to the FedEx study, three-quarters (75%) agreed that individuals, communities, etc. that have a ‘futuristic’ outlook are more environmentally conscious. In fact, 71% of the respondents claimed that, as decision-makers in a futuristic business, sustainability would be crucial and their top priority.

The response from the study participants is clear: organizations must continue to re-evaluate and revamp their sustainability strategies to help ensure relevance to their customers and resilience for the long term.

As the world keeps evolving, technology and trends will likely drive changes in lifestyle, behaviors, and attitude. For both businesses and individuals, embracing a future that offers endless possibilities and having a mindset that is dynamic, experimental, and sustainable will be imperative to stay one step ahead of the curve.

FedEx ‘Future is Now’ study* Methodology

The above findings are based on research fieldwork conducted by Innovative Research Services (India) Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, through face-to-face and telephonic interviews with 4,210 respondents in 18 Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. Out of these 18 cities, nine are Tier 1 cities which include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, and Secunderabad, while the other nine are Tier 2 cities which include Coimbatore, Dehradun, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Kochi, Lucknow, Surat, Udaipur, and Varanasi. Respondents included a representative sample of people from the above cities aged between 18-60 years.

FedEx Express Donates To Environmental NGOs Chosen By Team Members

India, Pune, June 3, 2021 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, has announced it will donate $50,000 USD each to sustainability-focused projects in India and Africa.

As part of the FedEx Priority Earth Global Grant Program, thousands of FedEx team members selected 12 nonprofits from across the six international regions in which FedEx operates. Each is awarded a $50,000 USD grant, for a total FedEx investment of $600,000 USD toward green solutions:

“FedEx has set ambitious goals to reduce our footprint where we have the greatest environmental impact. Working alongside nonprofits and investing in their efforts is a critical part of the company’s strategy to drive the action and innovation needed to make a difference in our world,” said Jack Muhs, regional president for the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, and Africa.

United Way Mumbai supports multiple environmental sustainability projects, including urban afforestation, protecting mangroves, and watershed development. Their programs support the efforts of local civic bodies and involve community members in environmental protection.

“The support from FedEx will help United Way Mumbai plant and maintain mangrove saplings in degraded wetlands in Mumbai. It will also support efforts to clean and maintain our beaches and reduce marine pollution. We are grateful for this support and know that it will contribute to lasting change in our communities,” said George Aikara, CEO, United Way Mumbai.

Solar Sister supports the environment through the creation of green energy and women-driven businesses that provide power in areas that still do not have electricity. Funding will provide a comprehensive package of support, training, and services to create a larger network of women to bring clean energy technology to remote communities in rural Africa.

“We are so grateful to FedEx for sharing our values and our vision to create a lasting impact toward a sustainable future. Investing in women’s enterprise in off-grid communities is a key part of the solution to the clean energy challenge. The support from FedEx will help to scale our model to more communities in sub-Saharan Africa, multiplying the impact that we have on women entrepreneurs, their families, and their communities,” said Katherine Lucey, Founder, and CEO of Solar Sister, Inc.

This new investment as part of the Priority Earth Global Grant Program aligns with ongoing collaboration between FedEx and organizations that are leading the development of innovative solutions to address climate change. It follows the commitment FedEx made earlier this year to achieve carbon-neutral operations globally by 2040

FedEx Delivering Critical COVID-19 Aid to India

MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 6, 2021— As India and its healthcare systems face a surge in COVID-19 infections across the country, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, is working with organizations around the world to deliver critical medical supplies and equipment during this crisis.

FedEx is currently supporting the transportation of more than 25,000 oxygen concentrators and converters through an initiative with the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum and other multinational companies. An initial shipment of 1,000 critical oxygen concentrators was delivered by FedEx to New Delhi on April 30 as part of this collective.

On May 8, FedEx is donating a FedEx Boeing 777F charter flight to move more than 3,400 oxygen concentrators, converters, and nearly 265,000 KN95 masks for Direct Relief from Newark, New Jersey to Mumbai, India. The supplies will ultimately be delivered to healthcare facilities in Mumbai. In addition, FedEx is working with customers and non-profit organizations to deliver hundreds of tonnes of medical supplies and aid into India in the days and weeks ahead.

FedEx also is a founding member of the  Global Task Force on Pandemic Response, a public-private partnership organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and supported by the Business Roundtable to provide a unified platform for businesses to mobilize and deliver resources to assist COVID-19 efforts in areas of the highest need around the world. FedEx President and COO Raj Subramaniam are one of 17 business leaders serving on the steering committee for the task force.

“The devastating humanitarian crisis in India requires relief from around the world, and it is our mission to deliver critical aid needed to help alleviate suffering,” Subramaniam said. “We have been on the frontlines delivering relief since the start of the pandemic, and are responding to the urgent situation in India now. FedEx will continue to deliver lifesaving medicine, personal protective equipment, and other critical supplies until this pandemic is over.”

FedEx has moved more than 10,000 COVID-19 humanitarian aid shipments since January 2020. The company has also committed $4 million in cash and in-kind transportation support to help nonprofits including Direct Relief and International Medical Corps distribute COVID-19 vaccines to under-resourced communities around the world.

FedEx has a long history of moving critical items across the globe. Since the start of the pandemic, FedEx Express has shipped more than 80 kilotons of personal protective equipment, including more than 2.2 billion masks worldwide. An integral part of the global vaccine supply chain, FedEx is currently delivering COVID-19 vaccines, related ingredients, and supplies to more than 25 countries around the world.

“Direct Relief is thankful beyond words for FedEx enabling scaled-up assistance that’s critically needed by people in India, where growing COVID-19 cases present such severe threats to their health,” said Thomas Tighe, Direct Relief President, and CEO. “As it has on so many other occasions, FedEx devoting its unique logistics capacity and the skills and energies of its global team is a perfect example of the type of leadership and commitment that is needed now to combat this historic pandemic and the risks to people everywhere.”

The delivery of the lifesaving supplies is consistent with the company’s FedEx Cares 50 by 50 goal to positively impact 50 million people around the world by the company’s 50th anniversary in 2023. Learn more about the FedEx Cares “Delivering for Good” initiative here.
